Setup Any Voip Service in Ekiga for Linux

     Through this post i`l be telling on how to setup any voip service like ActionVoip in the best voip client of linux the Ekiga or known as Gnomemeeting


    Ekiga (formely known as GnomeMeeting) is an open source SoftPhoneVideo Conferencing and Instant Messenger application over the Internet. It supports HD sound quality and video up to DVD size and quality. It is inter operable with many other standard compliant softwares, hardwares and service providers as it uses both the major telephony standards (SIP and H.323).




I`l explain how to setup ActionVoip for Ekiga


  • Step 1: Install Ekiga in Linux  You can do this by 3 methods
    • *Method 1: using the Terminal
      • -Use the command "sudo aptitude install ekiga" for installing it in most linux



    • *Method 2: Using the Package manager
      • -Most linux distribution now have a software manager which contains "ekiga".






    • *Method 3: Use the Source package
  • Step 2 : Create a ekiga account
    • *When the ekiga is installed the configuration menu will appear. Here you'l have to enter the account details.
    • *Get a ekiga account by clicking the "Get an Ekiga.net SIP account" and enter it in the appropriate field
    • *And complete the configuration with most defaults settings






  • Step 3 : Configure ActionVoip settings
    • *Open the accounts dialog by either pressing "Ctrl+E" or goto Edit>Accounts
    • *Then click the edit and change the following:
      • -account name: ActioVoip
      • -registrar : sip.actionvoip.com
      • -user: <username> [which you get from registration page, you mentioned earlier]
      • -authetication user: <same name above>
      • -password:<password>
        timeout:600

That all, it is now setup, you cal call to any number by dialing "sip:xxxxxxxxxx@sip.actionvoip.com" in the dialing space.
